How can you select your favorite d&d 2024 background from latest 16 released backgrounds?

Hi guys! Me and my other table players are stuck in selecting the latest backgrounds to build our game and best character for our campaign. We know it's totally up to me and my co-players choice to select and which one is suitable for it. But we are getting interrupted with their features and descriptions can any one share your opinions on selecting the backgrounds. Thanks in advance guys!

I'm fine....and i hope you too as me! I need an answer from anywhere in the world of dungeons and dragons game players perspective...so i had to search from different sources to ask my questions and finally i found some helpful forums like dragonslair...i hope this forum helps me in future as well!

Because it's a italian comunity, is more difficult, for me, express our opinion ia a different language.

When i have to choose the background of my caracters i after think about the backstory using this 3 questions:

1. Who were my PG after being an adventurer?

2. Why did he/she leave his/her past life?

3. What change inside him/her before had been an adventurer?

Before making the backstory i open the Player's handbook and read the backgrounds, but only the title; i selected the various possibilities (it can be also only 1) and read privilege which one is more realistic for my PG is the one i chose. Only after that i read the bonus like equip, skills...

Thanks for your replay mate! I hope i will get other replies as well for gaining knowledge on different type of background list dnd from other experts like you. Mainly i focus on dnd 2024 backgrounds so i choose the this website and select different forums and social media platforms to get an idea before i create my own backstory for my DM discretion.

What are your thoughts, questions, comments on latest d&d 5.24's........12 classes, 48 subclasses, 16 Backgrounds, 10 Species, and 75 Feats we will continue through this thread as well!

Penso che i nuovi background, che da una parte li rende ancora più necessario sceglierli, bisognerebbe prenderli per ciò che sono, come per la vecchia edizione, degli spunti, potreste anche solo mettervi i bonus che danno e non stare lì a leggere tutto.

Actually, more than focusing on the existing backgroud, I will problably create the one I need, as I did for the 2014 edition. A BG should fit your needs, and the shift of bonus to the BGs implies a major versatility, even if a less species definition.

This is a big issue. As told in other topics, the changes are, from a quantitative point of view, not so impressive, and from a qualitative point of view, there are lights and shadows. One one hand, some issues have been solved (like the mandatoryness of some feats, being too overpower - sharpshooter, great weapon master) while other ones have been created (mostly in spells and feats - warcaster feat, conjure minor elemental spell...). I regret that some very interesting changes (such as the bard relying on different spell list as for the first UA, or the ability for warlock to chose which spell ability use dependently of its pact boon...) have been trashed.

In conclusion (but consider, I didn't played it, I only read the PHB) I guess that the new PHB is better than the previous one. Unfortunately, I will not play it since 5th edition has become a little boring to me, but maybe I can give it a chance by playing it online via Foundry with some friends working abroad.

Chill out please, people have busy lives and they answer if and when they can, this is not an hotline.

Said that, with the new rules I suggest you and your friends to choose a background only by looking at the mechanical features, then make your own backstory for your character, that may or may not be similar to the flavor suggested by the background.
